Pukkelpop
The festival pukkelpop is always in the month August. At the 2nd half of the month in Hasselt-Kiewit and has a duration of 3 days. Since a few years the poster counts at least 150 bands. Aside from the headliners, there are also a lot of small less known artists who play on the festival. Pukkelpop has 8 stages: The Main Stage, Marquee, Dance Hall, Boiler room, The Shelter(till 2008 the Skate stage), Club, Chateau and since 2004 de ‘Wablief-tent’.
In front of the festival area is the camping. It has showers, toilets and enough space for 40.000 visitors. The organisation is still in hands of the Humanistic Youth from Leopoldsburg with a sign ‘Chokri Mahassine’.
Pukkelpop reached the last years over 130.000 visitors, but the 2009 and 2010 edition had over 180.000 visitors. With that capacity is it one of the biggest festivals in the ‘BeNeLux’(Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg).
1.Pukkelpop History
In 1985 was the first edition of Pukkelpop. The festival was really small back then. There was only 1 stage and 7 artists. The festival was not like now, 3 days. But only 1 day. There came only 2500 visitors. After that the festival became bigger and bigger. There were too many artists for 1 day. So the festival was not 1 but 2, or 3 days. There were more stages and more visitors tried a visit to the festival. The prices of the tickets became more expensive and you even could buy combi tickets. With a combi ticket you could go all the days of the festival and there came a camping where you could stand on if you bought a combi ticket.
